QOTD: The World is Just a Trailer Park

While debating Canada taking over the NATO command of Libyan actions, and adding in the irony that the Canadian government just took a vote of no confidence in the PM (which passed), AK Fan and I lamented for the days of the cold war.  Simply because during that era, at least we knew who the players were.  From AK Fan:
The world truly is a fucking mess.  Like we've joked about before, you ALMOST have to miss the cold war.  Sure we were always on the edge of destruction, but you have the US/NATO and you have the USSRF.  Everyone else stayed the fuck out of their way.
Pure and simple, the two major players kept each other in check.  Yes, there were proxy wars and actions on the periphery, but for the most part, the world was a fairly stable place.  The US also did not need to have this policy of freedom export upon the level that we do today, knowing full well that we might find ourselves up against Ivan himself if we over stepped our bounds and threatened his interests.  The cold war kind acted as it's own mediator in a civilized suburban neighborhood.  There were rules of detente along with weapons inspectors (the good old Reagan doctrine of "Trust but Verify").  Of course, the clandestine game was probably at its best during that era which gave us some of the best books and movies of all time.

Unfortunately, as I analogized, the world has degraded into that of a proverbial trailer park.
The world is really a big cluster fuck; since the fall of the wall, it has turned into one big trailer park.  Unfortunately, I think that a trailer park could manage the world better than the numb-skulls running it.  On the economy they'd just say "Fuck you, you didn't pay your loan, so we put your pick-em-up-truck on the record and toed yous ass down to the junk yards, now leamme alone so I can drink ma beer."
Never one to be outdone, AK Fan makes the analogy even simpler:
See, right now the world is a trailer park.  The problem is the US is the cop who tries to keep order but, while he's there to enforce the law, he's also fucking half the wives in the park.  Further, he's helping them pay their rent with $20's he prints up on his HP copier.  At some point, it just can't continue.
Folks, this is the world in which we live...Welcome to the Trailerhood

Justification for High Cap Mags

As the attack upon our ammunition feeding devices comes into sever question upon Capital Hill, and the marginally legal Executive Branch pushes shotgun import restrictions (all the while controversy swirls the agency itself), it becomes imperative to seek out the truth with regards to lawful firearms ownership.

In a story that is more than a decade old, we can point out the benefits one can achieve with multiple standard capacity magazines and common use arms.  The Beckwith Incident shows how a 65 year old gun store owner was able to confront seven armed thugs, aged 16-21, by himself, AND (as a bonus) use restraint to limit the defense of his shop to one justifiable homicide.  Had Mr. Beckwith been restricted to just 10 rounds of ammunition in any magazine, chances are, he would have been run over while reloading by the car he stared down while using his AR-15.  This would have allowed the criminals to flee the scene before the police arrived, and chances are thousands of dollars worth of arms and ammunition would have ended up in the hands of countless criminals.  This article shows how lawful use of Class III weapons in the hands sensible and responsible gun owners can level the playing field against multiple threats, and that using such weapons is not directly related to mass murder (but quite the contrary).

Read the article (and if anyone has the original, please send a PDF scan of it my way and I'll see if I can't get in contact with the author and publisher to host it), take note, and use it in your letters to your representatives.

Hat tip to AK Fan.

Trump: China can Foxtrot October!

Well, ok, he didn't exactly say that China can F'off.  However, using business language and "off the record" sovereign trade talk speak, he did.  Finally, an American businessman and potential leader that has the balls to actually say what most mainstream Americans think.

This clip is from a phone interview on CNBC's Larry Kudlow & Company's show earlier this week.  If you have ten minutes, it is highly worth the time to watch The Donald explain what he would do to solve the manipulative Red Chinese's trade practices.  Additionally, Kudlow pushes at Trump to see if he might be a contender for the 2012 Presidential race.  Seems that he might have a contract conflict with a certain show that will prevent him from saying yes until later this year.

Of course, I'm already on record as saying he'd have my support.  Watch the vid, it's worth the listen.

H/T to AK Fan, of course.

When SHTF, Reliability > Accuracy, FTW!

When SHTF, and acceptable combat accuracy is a necessity rather than a luxury, fire for effect means that every trigger pull equals BANG!

Guess there is a good reason Russian weapons are designed by vodka drinkers, for vodka drinkers.  When your drinking team has an infantry problem, best to go with loose tolerances and (as SayUncle says) minutes of asshole

QOTD: Congressmen Aren't a Civil Right

Obviously there has been a lot of talk about the proposed 1000' law and just how stupid an idea that this law would be.
I'd like to propose we turn that around since owning a gun is a civil and fundamental right, where as being a Congressman isn't a fundamental right.  I propose we ban Congressmen from being within 1000 feet of any gun or anyone carrying a gun.
Ahhhh, the wisdom of AKFan.  Always good for a noble idea!

I am certain that some anti would read this and say that this quote is ass backwards in thinking.  In reality, it is brilliant!  Yes, government is a necessary evil and is chartered in our Constitution, but an individual is not Constitutionally guaranteed the right to be a member of congress, SCOTUS, or TOTUS POTUS.  Certainly, those positions are enumerated in the Constitution and certain requirements are imposed to safeguard the honor and integrity of the various institutions, but no rights (natural or enumerated, civil or otherwise) are conferred upon the people who hold those offices.  Rights are enumerated (not conferred) to ALL Americans.

After all, our elected representatives are suppose to be our government "For, by and of the people."  We in this country do not magically bestow additional rights upon the mortals that govern our country (though they would like to think that they have more rights than those whom they govern).  Thus, the transitive property of rights fails its test in the "equal for all" application.

Then again, this is purely a lesson in theory since equality in government and modern society is completely lost by most politicians.

QOTD: Free Education Should Start with $50k for Calculators

Always good for at least one quote a week, AK Fan has found a way to solve the education riots and budgetary problems in the UK:
I think the [UK] government should spend $50k for calculators and hand them out to the crowd along with a copy of the budget.  Tell them their first free education lesson will be to balance the budget without either spending cuts or fee increases.
Seems like it would put the students to work in far more productive ways than this.  I hate to quote someone so often but when they are right so often, it's hard not to quote them.  With austerity shaping up to take hold in PIIGS, England, and even the USA in 2011, it's hard not to see such events escalating and worsening before they get better.

Oh yeah, Merry Christmas world!  Hope you are enjoying your sovereign presents!
